My approach to my work has always been to try and have a "funky" edge whilst embracing the latest tech and techniques (at least that's the idea). Been at it for more than 30 years now, thanks to a mixture of luck and hard work.
I originally trained as a hand-drawn technical illustrator, (no Ctrl-Z in those days!!!) But I recognised that Computer GFX was going to be the way forward. Since then I've worked mostly in the Corporate / Automotive Live Events sector, from early 35mm slides, through bespoke and commercial broadcast GFX presentation systems, to Non-Linear editing and Motion GFX, into 3D CGi and Realtime XR experiences.
If I'm not working, I try and keep active with my 2 boys, including Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Camping, Hiking etc - 'Caus we all spend a bit too much time in front of our screens these days!!!
As well as content-creation - I spent many years working onsite at various conferences, award shows and product launches. I undertook a variety of roles, covering areas such as Presentation GFX Design / Operation, Video Playout, Screen Blending / Switcher Operative and Projection.
I got to travel to some cool places (and some that admittedly were not so cool!)., but I was always very fortunate to be in the good company of some very dedicated and talented crew, who certainly helped me get through all the late nights and early mornings.
I believe knowing what happens to creative content once it leaves the creation stage is a vital part of the content journey, so my history of onsite helps give me some useful insight here.
